چکیده
Abstract Crary Ice Rise formed after the Ross Shelf re-grounded ~1 kyr BP. We present new ice-penetrating radar data from two systems operating at center frequencies of 7 and 750 MHz that confirm ice rise is composed a former shelf buried by subsequent accumulation. Stacks englacial diffraction hyperbolas are almost everywhere across central extend up to ~350 m above bed. In many cases, bed reflections beneath obscured for distances 1 km. Waveform modeling indicates likely caused marine deposits in basal crevasses rifts. The in-filling rifts may have strengthened connection between surrounding shelf, which could influenced local regional dynamics. Three internal reflection horizons mark upper limit disturbed different sections rise, indicating least three stages flow stabilization rise. A surface lineation visible MODIS imagery corresponds spatially deepening strong deformation these layers, consistent with characteristics grounding lines observed elsewhere Antarctica.

Radio Echo Sounding of the Greenland Inland Ice
Radio echo sounding has been used for a number of years in the exploration of polar ice such as the inland ice in Greenland and Antarc tica. By means of this technique a number of important glaciological and geophysical parameters may be deter mined. Examples are ice thickness, bedrock topography and structure, stratification patterns which are used for climate and flow patterns studies, and ...

Satellite-based radio echo sounding technique is of interest to the Earth science community over Antarctica and Greenland, as well as to the planetary science community for exploring subsurface structures of Mars and Europa. Pioneered by the Mars exploration community using MARSIS radar on board the Mars Express mission, such a technique has demonstrated ice sounding capability down to a few ki...

A "tethered sta ke" appa ra tus is used to measure basal sliding in a borehole on Ice Stream B, 'Nest Antarctica, a bout 300 km upstream (east) from its g rounding line near the head of the R oss lee Shelf. A meta l sta ke, emplaced at the to p of a layer of unfrozen till underlying the ice, is connected by a tether line to a metering unit that measures the te ther line as it is pulled out from...
متن کاملInstruments and Methods Improved method to determine radio-echo sounding reflector depths from ice-core profiles of permittivity and conductivity
We present a technique that modifies and extends down-hole target methods to provide absolute measures of uncertainty in radar-reflector depth of origin. We use ice-core profiles to model wave propagation and reflection, and then cross-correlate the model results with radio-echo sounding (RES) data to identify the depth of reflector events. Stacked traces recorded with RES near the EPICA drill ...
متن کاملMarine ice-sheet profiles and stability under Coulomb basal conditions
The behavior of marine-terminating ice sheets, such as the West Antarctic ice sheet, is of interest due to the possibility of rapid grounding-line retreat and consequent catastrophic loss of ice. Critical to modeling this behavior is a choice of basal rheology, where the most popular approach is to relate the ice-sheet velocity to a power-law function of basal stress. Recent experiments, howeve...
